Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus for the PS3.

Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus wraps up where the story left off in A Crack in Time. While transporting a space witch to prison, the duo is bombarded by pirates, destroying the ship and sending the pair into space. Before an otherworldly monstrosity is unleashed, Ratchet and Clank race against time to stop the nefarious sorceress before she destroys the galaxy. It has its patented funny moments, but this tale is a more heartfelt experience and a good one at that. For this PS3 trilogy, everything is wrapped up neatly, yet it leaves room for a new game.

These games ultimately haven’t changed since the first Ratchet and Clank on the PS2. Armed with various gadgets and upgradable guns, Ratchet and Clank hop platform to platform taking out enemies along the way. Collect bolts to buy armor, or guns and find crystals to modify weapons. The one new mechanic finds Clank taking on puzzles in another dimension known as the Nether, which opens up new ways in the real world. Altogether it’s nothing mesmerizing, but it’s a fun, solid adventure nonetheless.

This series looks as charming as ever akin to a playable Pixar movie. Bright colors, exotic locations, and a firm grasp on its reality, Ratchet and Clank will pull players in. The acting and music are as brilliant as ever and while the journey is significantly shorter than usual, it’s a great deal for $30. There are a few rough spots in terms of difficulty and there were an occasional glitch or two, but these are mild cases in an otherwise smooth production.

The Ratchet and Clank series have reached a status on the likes of Mario. While there is never a bad game, the series needs a retooling. This is an excellent adventure short lived and best enjoyed rented even at the initial low cost. Hopefully the next game will both push the PS4 and the series to new heights.

Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus was released on November 12, 2013 for the PS3. Check out ReActionExaminer on YouTube for a look at the game.
