Hyperdimension Neptunia Producing Perfection

Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection is an interesting game to say the least. I feel like this game was created to get all up on that Vocaloid hype since they made a game for that stuff too. I am very familiar with the Hyperdimension Neptunia universe so I was interested in seeing what this game was about.

The game is not very in-depth and while there is a lot to play, the game is still rather short and it progresses quickly. You play as a producer, with no experience mind you, and you must turn one of the four Gamindustri goddesses into a popstar. The game states when you boot it up that this game is not canon to the main story of the previous three games. So this is purely for gameplay reasons, the story is incredibly basic.

The gameplay is oddly simple and it has some serious merit when it comes to simulation games. You pick a goddess to start with, Neptune, Noire, Blanc, and Vert. From there, you train what they do best and improve on their poorer qualities. These include rhythm, voice quality, appearance, confidence etc. Improving these will give you better results during concerts which are what really matter in this game. After you spend a few days training and doing some PR work, a concert will show up. When you perform in the concert it is where you gain the most fans and other qualities. The more successful the concert the better the rankings at the end of the week and month.

For the concerts you are able to change a few variables. You choose the stage type, the three kinds effects you will be able to use during the concert, what song your goddess will sing, and the placement of your goddess. During the concert you control the camera. Focusing on certain areas of the goddess will give you temporary bonuses to crowd enjoyment and you mix those with the different effects you chose. These effects are better on some stages than others, so it helps to experiment. After doing concerts, recording contracts, PR work, you can spend time with your goddess and get them to love you like the waifu's they are!

The art is pretty good, but the camera work is confusing and shoddy. I like the idea behind the game but at the same time, this game really does not appeal to my demographic. I can appreciate the work went into Producing Perfection but the game is really boring after you clear one goddess's story. If you like really simple simulation games, this certainly is for you. The downside is that this game is really developed for a certain demographic and I am not in that group. I give Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producting Perfection for the PS Vita a 6/10.
