Product Review: The Gluten Free Bar

For those of us who are constantly on the go or just plain like the convenience of a satisfying snack in the form of a protein bar, there is a delicious new gluten-free option available called The Gluten Free Bar.

This examiner sampled a Peanut Butter/ Chocolate bar as well as a Peanut Butter bar. The high amount of protein in each bar was a pleasant surprise to see as a lot of convenience bars that are gluten-free tend to have a much lower amount of protein (2-3 grams).

The Peanut Butter bar satisfied this examiner's huge cravings for a chewy peanut buttery treat as she had yet to find a healthy and gluten-free substitute for peanut butter cookies. What is great about this bar (besides the fact that it is gluten-free) is it is dairy-free and made with all natural ingredients. It is made with organic dry roasted peanuts. Organic brown rice syrup and organic agave nectar are used as the sweeteners so the bar is low in the glycemic index. It has 13g of protein, the proteins come from rice and soy protein. Whole golden flax seeds and sea salt are also added making this bar a very healthy option in addition to being a good source of omega-3.

The Peanut Butter/Chocolate bar has the same ingredients as the Peanut Butter bar but also has added semi-sweet chocolate chips that are also dairy-free. It has 12g of protein. Besides also being moist and chewy, this almost seemed like it had a brownie type texture. Again, like the Peanut Butter bar, this examiner found it to be very delicious and satisfying.

The Gluten Free Bar (the GFB) is based out of Chicago, IL. In addition to being able to order the bars online, these bars can currently be found locally at Deerfield's Bakery, Protein Bar, Wicker Basket Cafe and The Goddess and Grocer.
