Tate's Bake Shop makes gluten-free versions of their classic chocolate chip cookies and brownies. I reviewed their chocolate chip cookies back in September and they were awarded five starts. Alas their brownies are not sold locally, so I waited until I won a gluten-free gift basket to get my hands on them and boy were they worth the wait.
Tate's makes gourmet products and their gluten-free brownies are no exception. These brownies have a brownie texture around the edges and a rich, creamy, decadent fudge-like/truffle-like texture in the middle. It isn't heavy like fudge and if it wasn't for the chewy texture around the edges it almost appears that no baking was involved. Total chocolate indulgence is achieved and produces a soft, moist, fudgy brownie that is made with very few ingredients.
I like that they are sold individually and that a little bite will satisfy my sweet tooth. I like that you can eat it directly out of the freezer (my preferred way to eat because it doesn't freeze solid), so you always have something on hand when you are craving chocolate. I love that they are made with dark Belgium chocolate and almond meal, so I feel I am getting more protein with my sweets and less dairy. Considering the high quality ingredients used and the fact that a little goes a long way they are reasonably priced.
This product would be perfect for a restaurant looking for a gluten-free dessert, because it doesn't have to be thawed or heated, just plated with a little added fruit or cream and it is ready to go. It is also a great dessert to keep in your freezer for yourself or guests who follow the gluten-free diet.
These brownies would also make a fabulous Valentine's Day present for someone who eats gluten free! When oh when will they be available for sale locally??
