An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so this product is definitely worth a look. I purchased this at a discounted rate earlier in the winter, and plan to buy it again because it's effective at stopping a minor bug before it turns into a major one.
SuperTonic, according to the website for Hidden Pond Farm in Centerville, is "an ancient high-potency remedy for inflammations, fevers, flu, colds, infections". The ingredients, all of which are organic, are habaneor pepper, garlic, onion, ginger, horseradish root and raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar.
"We shred the ingredients, then vinegar-age in a glass vessel protected from light," owners Andy and Beverly McDowell explain in a pamphlet. "After aging, we strain, then juice the pulp, bottling the result. We never heat it, and for optimum nutritional value we do not filter out the pulp seediment after juicing."
SuperTonic does not spoil or need refrigeration, although Hidden Pond Farm recommends that you refrigerate it after one year. You probably won't have it that long, however, because of the powerful effect it has on you.
I feel like I could take on an army when I use SuperTonic. So far, I've managed what one customer called "the dreaded Hoosier Winter Crud". That in itself makes SuperTonic worth the money. However, it has other benefits.
"SuperTonic is not intended to diagnose, prevent, treat or cure any disease," explains the pamphlet, citing U.S Food and Drug Administration regulations. "We merely report that it has seemed to help us and others with inflammation-related problems."
I can vouch for that--I have asthma, and it is severe enough to require a daily inhaler and a backup inhaler. When I have symptoms in spite of the regular inhaler, SuperTonic seems to help be breathe better. Anything that can do that belongs in my medicine cabinet.
Although the mixture can be taken straight, I would not recommend that since the habanero pepper is one of the hottest in the world. The directions on the bottle recommend mixing maple syrup or honey with SuperTonic and real fruit juice, but I have not found sweetening necessary. I like to drink it with 100-percent grapefruit juice.
SuperTonic can be purchased at the Indy Winter Farmer's Market, or ordered online from Hidden Pond Farm's website. My 8-ounce bottle lasted for a couple of months.
