If you’ve ever tried battered gluten-free chicken products—nuggets, patties and the like—you know they can be hit and miss. With some, the coating is crumbly and falls off the meat; others leave a strange aftertaste on your palate.
Recently, though, Golden Platter Foods launched a line of fully cooked battered gluten-free chicken products that truly make the mark. If you were ever a fan of fast food chicken nuggets, tenders and patties, you’ll love these healthier gluten-free versions. The batter is flavorful and crisps up nicely, yet is not overly greasy or crumbly.
Instead of low-quality dark meat and fillers, Golden Platter uses hormone-free breast meat and you can really taste the difference. One family member who does not follow a gluten-free diet commented that he would have never known these products were gluten free, and that they taste comparable to fast food chain gluten-free chicken nuggets, only better.
You can’t beat them for convenience either. The nuggets, patties and tenders are all precooked then frozen and can be reheated quickly in either a conventional oven or the microwave (the former is the preferred method, of course, and yields the best results).
Nutritionally, the ingredient list is short and clean and devoid of scary chemicals and excessive sugars, unlike most rival brands. Five chicken nuggets, for instance, contain 0 grams of sugar, only 7 grams of carbohydrates and 8g of fat. The only major allergens of note are corn and soy (the batter is corn based and they are cooked in non-hydrogenated soybean oil). They contain no hormones, preservatives or trans fats and are certified gluten free. This is a terrific product and this Examiner gives it her highest recommendation.
