Product Review: Caveman Cookies

This Examiner received samples of Caveman Cookies this past week.  Caveman Cookies was created to produce wholesome foods using ingredients that early humans had access to (nuts, honey and berries) while leaving out those products that have been introduced in the past thousand years (grains and dairy).  This Examiner has been hearing great success stories from people who have gone on the Paleolithic Diet or the Caveman Diet (weight loss, reduction in inflammation, maximize metabolism, etc.), so we were curious to give them a try.

Each package of cookies contains six individually wrapped cookies, which makes them highly portable for snacks, to put in lunches, etc.  There are three flavors: Original, Tropical and Alpine.  The cookies are made from primarily almond meal and are sweetened with honey and fruit.  They are produced in a dedicated gluten-free facility and are certified gluten free by the Gluten Free Certification Organization.

These are soft chewy cookies that have a distinct texture.  Considering these cookies contain no flour or egg, their texture is pretty incredible.  The Original is like an oatmeal raisin cookie and was our least favorite only because we don't care for raisins in cookies.  The Tropical is made with coconut and macadamia nuts and has great flavor.  It was my favorite flavor because the crunch of the nuts added another layer of texture to the cookies. The Alpine flavor is a combination of hazelnuts and carob and met my chocolate needs.

One cookie is very satisfying and they are 'sweet enough for a dessert while being healthy enough for a snack'.  We like the amount of protein in each cookie, that they contain no refined sugar or preservatives and that a service size is two cookies, not one.

Caveman Cookies can be purchased online in three different sized bags – small ($5.45 for 6 cookies) large ($9.95 for 12 cookies) or jumbo ($17.95 for 24 cookies).
