Never before available on DVD, Shout! Factory has released the award-winning Keshet International series Prisoners of War: Season One. Featuring all 10 episodes from the first season, the three-DVD set also includes brand new interviews with the cast and creator Gideon Raff, as well as episode commentaries with creator Gideon Raff and Director of Photography Itai Neeman.
Created by the award-winning Gideon Raff for Keshet Broadcasting, Prisoners of War is the original Israeli drama upon which Showtime’s Emmy-award winning Homeland was based. In July 2010, it won the Israeli Academy Award for Television for Best Drama Series. At the time of broadcast, the first season of Hatufim was Israel's highest-rated TV drama of all time. It also achieved critical acclaim and was awarded Best Drama Series of 2010 by the Israeli Academy of Film and Television. For their work on the show, Gideon Raff won Best Directing for a Drama Series, Ishai Golan won Best Actor in a Drama Series, and Yael Abecassis won Best Actress in a Drama Series.
The series follows the story of three Israeli soldiers held captive for 17 years and the lives they return to after being released. Having become national icons, they not only have to rebuild their personal relationships, but reintegrate into the community. As the soldiers struggle to reconnect with family and rejoin society, details about their imprisonment surface that lead to more questions. When secrets of the years gone by begin coming to light, betrayal, resentment and suspicion threaten to destroy their lives all over again.
Since 2011, Prisoners of War has consistently been the number one drama in Israel. This intriguing and pensive narrative will keep viewers guessing as new facts are gradually uncovered. Starring Yoram Toledano, Yaël Abecassis, Ishai Golan, Mili Avital, Assi Cohen and Adi Ezroni, Prisoners of War: Season One is a psychological drama that will captivate audiences.
