'Pretty Little Liars' 'She’s Better Now' review: What’s up with Mona and Jason?

The winter premiere of "Pretty Little Liars," "She's Better Now," which aired Jan. 8, was all about Mona's (Janel Parrish) return to Rosewood High. Radley may have let her out -- but she still has some unfinished business to take care of.

One of the least surprising things fans learned in this "PLL" episode is that, no, Mona is not all "better." She may post an online video, pleading for the people of Rosewood High to forgive and accept her, but she's no Mona 2.0.

Sure, Mona throws out the "mad cow" brain that someone stabbed into her locker, but she's just as creepy and vengeful as ever. After all, after she sees Meredith (Amanda Schull), she looks frazzled, so, chances are, it was her who drew Meredith to the race storage shed and tried setting her on fire.

While Mona hasn't changed, some interesting developments did occur on "Pretty Little Liars" "She's Better Now." For one, creepy Harold (Travis Richley) -- the receptionist at Lost Woods resort -- is also now the Rosewood High janitor. He has a bunch of Mona's things, because of course they're in cahoots. But one of those things includes Ali's old diary, which includes an entry about Ali blackmailing Byron (Chad Lowe). No matter how much Aria (Lucy Hale) doesn't want to admit it, her dad is quickly becoming a suspect.

Through all this, Toby (Keegan Allen) is lurking. Occasionally it seems like he's genuinely interested in spending time with Spencer (Troian Bellisario), but is it because he doesn't want her to put together the clues? And there's no way he just happened to run into the girls in the school basement. He was there to see Harold, implying that Harold has a much bigger role to play.

But perhaps the biggest "PLL" hint of the night comes at the very end. Jason (Drew Van Acker) tells Spencer that he'll keep away from a creepy Mona, but that's all a big fat lie. Mona is there with him at her house, and she's helping him dress his very infected wound -- perhaps from a rusty nail that Aria used to fight off her attacker on Halloween?

So, now the question is: does Mona have dirt on Jason, or are they genuinely working together? And if it's the latter, to what ends?

The spectacular "Pretty Little Liars" season three airs on ABC Family Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. EST.
