The hits just keep coming on Pretty Little Liars. “Hot Water” is full of so many twists and turns that it’s almost hard to keep up with what’s actually going on in the episode. That is a very good thing, as Pretty Little Liars is always at its best when it’s virtually incomprehensible.
This episode certainly delivers on the incomprehensibility. Hanna’s plot kicks off with her flat-out telling Det. Wilden they know he was the one that got Alison pregnant. From there, Det. Wilden threatens Cece in front of Hanna, leading Hanna to accidentally tell her mother some version of the truth. Cece promptly splits town. Det. Wilden also threatens Hanna. When Hanna naturally refuses to back down, Det. Wilden turns his attention to her mother. Ashley Marin also refuses to back down and ends up running him over, possibly killing him. But when she comes back with the police, he’s missing. And so the plot, if it can be called that, thickens.
The drama also unfolds with Aria and the Fitzgeralds. Wes has gone back to boarding school while Ezra has moved back home as if nothing happened. Naturally, Mrs. Fitzgerald has followed her boys to stir the pot a little. She has a very weird conversation with Aria, then she threatens Ezra a little, and finally she evicts Ezra’s ex-girlfriend and child from their condo, which Mrs. Fitzgerald of course owned. It would really be a shame if the Fitzgeralds weren’t wrapped up in the whole A-scheme somehow.
Over in the actual A plot, Emily keeps chugging away. With Paige’s help, she gets ahold of the list of people who bought the costume A wore on Halloween. More importantly, for now, she also talks with Cece and gets a little information before Cece runs away. As always, it always comes back to Melissa. Melissa may or may not also be behind Spencer being locked in a shower and leaving creepy notes in the bathroom. Spencer assumes it was because she once again fooled around with Wren. But it could be another A thing. Either way, Spencer has made up her mind to take to the other girls about what’s been happening.
So much was happening in “Hot Water” that it was hard to believe that it was all crammed into one episode. It was a very thrilling watch and promises so much more entertainment to come.
