On "Pretty Little Liars" "Mona-Mania," Mona (Janel Parrish) may now be out in the open, but that isn't going to stop her from trying to take down the four friends. On the Jan. 15 episode, she started with the brainiac of the group, Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario).
Despite all the time she spends sleuthing, the intelligent Spencer is still making time for extracurricular activities so she can escape Rosewood and go to Yale. But her plans to become the academic decathlon team captain get railroaded when Mona decides to not only join the team but become captain, too.
It seems an odd thing to do, but this is Mona after all. She's going after one of the most important things in Spencer's life, and she's clearly cutthroat, even if she plays the part of the weakling to egg Spencer on.
Despite the focus on Mona in "PLL" "Mona-Mania" -- complete with a text from A to Spencer that says, "Quit while you're ahead, Bitch" -- some other big reveals happened too.
Namely, Lucas (Brendan) has decided to finally stop acting as Mona's messenger, in part because he thinks it was Mona who tried to run him off the road. Little does he know it was Toby (Keegan Allen); then again, it seems Toby's alter-ego has been kept safe and sound, despite Emily (Shay Mitchell) chasing him after he slashed Paige's (Lindsey Shaw) car tires.
But even more interesting are the developments with suspect Byron Montgomery (Chad Lowe). With every "Pretty Little Liars" episode, he's getting creepier and creepier, starting with Byron telling the story of Aria (Lucy Hale) hiding her Halloween candy in her boots as the girls frantically hunt for Ali's diary pages in those same boots.
Byron even threatens his girlfriend Meredith (Amanda Schull), which has the strange effect of Aria turning to her mortal enemy to learn more about her dad. And Meredith has quite the story to tell: she knows Ali was bribing him, and she had been with Byron the night of Ali's disappearance... right before he went to go see Ali.
Mona is clearly up to no good either, considering she’s following Byron. But the question is: why? Does Byron know something that the A team doesn't like? Or did Byron actually kill Ali? Chances are he didn't, but Byron is still clearly up to no good.
Even so, can Aria really trust Meredith? She hasn't been that nice or reliable in the past, so whatever she says has to be taken with a grain of salt, too.
"Pretty Little Liars" airs on ABC Family Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST.
