ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars” has a way of not giving too much information away, but still satisfying fans (for the most part). That was no exception with the season three spring finale, “A Dangerous Game,” which aired on March 19.
For weeks, the show promoted the finale by teasing that “PLL” fans would learn the identity of the mysterious red coat. But things are never that simple in Rosewood.
Ezra (Ian Harding) and Aria (Lucy Hale) finally officially broke up, but as sad as it was, it was only a matter of time. It also served to break up the heart-pounding drama that was the rest of the episode. The gang discovers Spencer’s (Troian Bellisario) alliance with the A team, and Hanna (Ashley Benson) dresses as “red coat” to test her. (Did anyone momentarily think Hanna was actually A? Now that would be quite the twist).
That aside, other alliances came to light too. Shana has popped up sporadically throughout “Pretty Little Liars” season three, and there was a reason for that: she’s teamed up with Jenna (Tammin Sursok) and Melissa (Torrey DeVitto). They’re looking for some tapes, most likely related to the N.A.T. Club, and they’re planning something big for Friday night.
And so is the A team. Does that mean that Jenna, Melissa, and Shauna aren’t part of the A team? Maybe they’re somehow fighting against the A team? So, once again, a few things revealed, but more questions asked.
But what is clear is this: Toby (Keegan Allen) is alive, and so is Alison (Sasha Pieterse), somehow. That’s because Alison is red coat, or maybe it’s her twin, and she saves the lives of Hanna, Emily, and Aria, and even Mona from a burning house. But why? If she’s been leading the vendetta against them, why save their lives?
And if it wasn’t Ali (or her twin) who burned the house down, then does that mean it was Jenna, Shauna, and Melissa? Melissa hasn’t always been nice to her sister, but would she really try to kill her (not knowing that Spencer wasn’t in the house)?
But the crazy answers and questions don’t end there. Mona (Janel Parrish), apparently, never knew who red coat was either, even yelling at the girls, “I’m never going to know who she was” just before the house is set afire.
She also reveals to the girls that the “game” just got out of control, but it’s so hard to believe her after all the crazy stuff she’s pulled, particularly in “PLL” season three. And Toby is definitely on the side of Spencer, too, so he claims, which leads to one hot and sexy scene early on in “A Dangerous Game.”
But that’s not all either. Wilden’s car has been pulled from the lake, and magically the video works. In the video, Wilden is pulled into the woods by Jenna and Shana. In other words, they have another tape haunting them as well. But who’s in the trunk of Wilden’s car? All of that will have to wait until the return of “Pretty Little Liars” this summer.
Looking at the episode as a whole, not much was really revealed. Even Ali as red coat is questionable. Even so, it was one of the best episodes of the ABC Family drama, and now the hardest part is waiting for the show to return.
