The psychological thriller is a tricky medium to get into. The only way these films work is with a clever crafted story and big reveal. The latest attempt for this genre, Insight sports a great cast with Sean Patrick Flanery, Adam Baldwin, Christopher Lloyd, Juliet Landau, and Thomas Ian Nicholas. It has the cast but does it have the elements needed to pull it off?
Insight follows an ER nurse that is accidentally electrocuted by the defibrillator. Almost instantly she starts experiencing the memories of the person she was trying to save. After no one believers her, she decides to try and solve the crime herself or risk losing her own sanity. At first this movie is a bit slow and confusing, but slowly crafts into something a bit better. As the movie moves along the story twists and turns in a clever direction, but never fully delivers anything more than an average film. The performances here were decent but nothing special. At times some of the story feels forced, but thanks to the cast still manages to work most of the time. The resolve to the film is predictable, but is executed well enough to still feel satisfied with the overall film.
Although at times this film is pretty average and predictable it still manages to be a decent little thriller. Fans of the actors from the various genres will enjoy seeing these people in different types of roles than they are used to. If you enjoy any of these actors or a decent thriller, then give this one a shot it’s worth a rental.
