Prepare for a new stone age family in The Croods

Animated films have been getting better and better in regards to the looks, but not always in overall content. For some reason there are some that just seem to resonate with the audience while others seem to fall by the wayside for whatever reason. Dreamworks has delivered some great animated films over the years with their latest The Croods attempting to join the ranks. Can a film following a caveman family deliver something more than just a new look at what the Flintstones already did?

The Croods follows a prehistoric family as they are forced into a journey of a lifetime when their home is destroyed and the world forces them to face everything they feared outside of their cave and within themselves. The Croods is one of those films that the trailers doesn’t give you a whole lot to work with and certainly does not do it justice. This is a great animated adventure delivering a fresh take on the prehistoric family. Gone is the attempt at being clever with their life and instead they seemed to add some aspect of realism of the way they move and try to survive, with a heavy amount of over the top fun to bring it together. The story has multiple layers dealing with fear, love, growth, and life all at once while still bringing together an action packed heart felt film that is sure to be enjoyed by all ages. The animation is great and delivers some great characters in the leads but even more so some great creatures to bring this prehistoric world to glorious life. They seemed to really attempt to create a real approach to the caveman with not only their look, but the way they moved as well which really added to the characters performance. While there is a heartfelt story, there is plenty of fun action, adventure, and comedy that keeps this movie moving at a fast pace.

If you’re looking for a great animated film that is fun for the whole family and something different then look no further than The Croods. They showcase the same problems that families have clearly been dealing with since the dawn of man, which makes this strange world more relatable but still delivers a unique approach. This is another great animated film that will surely be a hit with both kids and adults and actually delivers some decent 3D to enhance the experience.
