Prepare for a motorcycle race back in time with Timerider

Shout Factory continues to bring some of the more obscure fun films that have developed cult followings home. The latest is 1982’s Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann featuring Fred Ward, Peter Coyote and the feature debut of Miguel Sandoval.

Timerider follows a champion off-road racer who accidentally gets caught up in a time travel experiment and sent 100 years into the past. Can he survive the Wild West with a band of brutal bandits steal his motorcycle armed with only his wits and a map from an Exxon station? Throughout film history there are films that you will never understand how they got made. Timerider is one of those films. The premise is pretty silly, but still manages to work on some wacky level. The story and nature of it all feels like it should have been more of a comedy, but in reality they take it pretty series for the most part, delivering a cheesy cult hit. There are lots of random useless shots that seem to be more filler than anything else, and varying plot holes that if it was a new film, everyone would be complaining about. Thankfully this classic still manages to live up to its cult status to deliver one of the more memorable and successful time travel films regardless of the ridiculous nature of the storyline.

This is the first time the film is featured on Blu-ray and will sports various features including commentary, interviews and a storyboard gallery. Shout Factory has once again delivered a classic film with a great transfer along with and overall Blu-ray that fans of both cheese, motocross, and westerns can get behind.

Be sure to grab your copy when it hits stores on March 19, 2013.
