Prehistoric terror comes from beneath with ‘Poseidon Rex’

Poseidon Rex

Over the years there has been a slew of over the top creature features that seem to have really found an audience. Some deliver and others don’t but usually they all manage to bring something to the table that pleases the fans of the genre. The latest, Poseidon Rex looks to bring the sea creature and the dinosaur together to create the ultimate underwater terror, but does it bring the expected creature cheese or will it sink to the bottom of the ocean?

Poseidan Rex follows small, secluded island off the coast of Belize suddenly finds itself terrorized by a deadly predator from the planet's distant past, when deep-sea divers accidentally awaken an ancient evil, a rampaging behemoth of death and destruction not only at sea but also on land. As with any of these films you know going in that it is likely to be a bit silly. This one is no different with scene after scene stumbling along in an attempt to make a cohesive story that sadly fails to deliver. There are so many moments here that just don’t make any sense, especially with the way they take the creature out that could have easily been done earlier in the film. Despite the issues with the film the real reason anyone checks these out is for the absurd creature and there is no shortage here. Upon first appearance and through the first half of the movie it looks pretty cool, but at some point the CGI started to get a bit cheesier. Usually this cheese factor is part of the charm, but when you have some great visuals that start going down it tends to through the visuals off.

This is far from a perfect film in anyway, but thankfully it knows its audience and they will no doubt have fun with it for what it is. Those expecting anything other than a ridiculous monster cheese fest then you will sorely disappointed, but those fans of this genre know what they are getting and will no doubt enjoy this one as well so grab your copy when it hits stores on May 13th.
