Snuggled in a cozy booth at the trendy BLT Steakhouse, sharing a Porterhouse steak for two, proved pure ecstasy. Served on a large, sizzling plate, lightly drizzled with sensuous sauces, the tasty, tender beef tickled the senses. Truly a carnivore’s delight, the 40-ounce entrée is one of many meat choices—all USDA prime or Certified Angus-- on a frisky menu created by executive chef, Chef Josh Gil for the West Hollywood restaurant.
Carved out of the former Le Dome—one of the most popular watering hole/fine dining venues of its era—BLT is set in a gorgeous room highlighted by a spectacular bar, lounge, Macassar ebony tables and cream colored banquettes. Fashionably dressed diners, mostly young and restless, fill the room with gaiety and laughter. Celebrities, and up and comers also make the scene, but unlike other power spots, most of them actually go to eat as well as see and be seen. And it’s easy to see why.
The food is simply sensational, especially aforementioned Porterhouse, which was accompanied with a fine bottle of Lewis Chardonnay (okay, we know you’re supposed to order red wine with beef, but we’re unconventional eaters). We also shared plates of amazing Hen of the Woods mushrooms, Parmesan Gnocchi, and grilled asparagus. The couple at the table next to us was enthusiastically enjoying a pyramid of onion rings that looked almost lascivious and made us lust for some (but we had enough on our plates, especially since Chef Gil had sent over a platter of appetizers to start us off.
The young, talented chef also spoiled us with a trio of obscenely deliciously decadent desserts, that included the house carrot cake, a dark chocolate tart with pistachio ice cream, a trio of sorbets, and a peanut butter chocolate mousse with banana ice cream—all which made you toss any dietary caution to the wind.
If you still haven’t made plans for a Valentine’s Day dinner, and your budget can handle a splurge, BLT certainly rates as a Cupid’s choice, especially if you share that Porterhouse for two (check out the photo to whet your appetite). Be sure to order a plate Steaks are dressed with a selection of sauces, ranging from Bearnaise to Horseradish, and paired with decadent sides such as Parmesan Gnocchi and oversized Onion Rings, all of which create an impeccable dining experience in Los Angeles. of the oversized onion rings. You might also want to arrive early and stop at the bar for a pre-dinner libation.
