I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you probably have never heard of the band called Port Mahadia. They actually have a huge international following, but there is no concentrated geographical area or demographic that they can call home. This is why I am so excited about introducing you to the musical masterpiece, "Echoes In Time", created and performed by the world-class musicians who are Port Mahadia.
Let me start with the actual music. "Echoes In Time" is not like ANY other recording you currently own or might have heard. "Echoes In Time" is a musical journey back to a time when captains and crews sailed the open seas in wooden ships with large canvas sails that gulped in the wind. They were fearless adventurers who risked everything to find riches and treasures in distant lands. These men had two loves, their women and the sea.
"Echoes In Time" takes us on such a journey. While listneing to this extraordinary work you will experience the loneliness, the thoughts of home and loved ones, the terror of a monstrous storm and the ultimate sacrifice paid by the crew....
"Echoes In Time" could be classified, I suppose, as a "rock opera" - not unlike such classics as "Tommy", and "Jesus Christ Superstar". Although Port Mahadia's "sound" is completely their own, you can hear influences in their music - or at least I did - that might include: Jethro Tull, Iron Butterfly, ELO, Mettalica, Rush and even Led Zepplin.
If you have a good understanding of musicianship you will be blown away by Port Mahadia's exquisite virtuoso performances on this CD. One minute they are crushing out driving guitar riffs blended with pulsating, relentless bass lines, tied together with commanding, forceful, explosive drumbeats and the next minute they combine to create lyrical, haunting ballads. Sure there are bands that can do one or the other well, but not both Port Mahadia masters both!
"Echoes In Time" would be the perfect companion on a road trip or long commute. You definitely want to have enough time to listen to the entire CD. You will find yourself becoming part of the crew as they embark on their fateful journey.
On the other hand, if you only have a short period of time to listen, you can choose any of the harder/heavier tracks to pump you up, or the softer/haunting ballads to sweep you away.
What music out there today can claim to be truly original and unique? You and I have heard it all before. Of course you can spend your money on any number of CDs or downloads that are more of the same genres that currently comprise your music library-but why? I encourage you to check out the musical art created by Port Mahadia.
If you are reluctant to wander too far from your current musical comfort zone, at least take a few minutes and check out some of the tracks of "Echoes In Time" online. Give it a chance.
