When I was a girl, pop music conquered my record player and my Sony Walkman. My sister and I would create dances to the songs that ruled our lives; we were constantly listening to music and pop music was at its best during the 80's. Madonna, The Go-Go's, Belinda Carlisle ruled our world's and I wanted nothing more than to feel everything they were singing. My pre-teen mind thought that understanding what they were singing was what it was like to be grownup.
Cut to several years later, Madonna (the early years), The Go-Go's and Belinda Carlisle still rule my airwaves, only now we call them iPod's. I have felt what they were signing about and it is for grownups! And one boring Saturday afternoon not that long ago, my sister and I created a dance to a pop song. A lot has happened but not a lot has changed; music can have that kind of effect on people.
Last night I was driving around and 'Mad About You' by Belinda Carlisle started to play and a thought came to me as clear as the dance moves to the song; pop music ruined me. If you listen to the lyrics to 'Mad About You', they are everything a girl/woman wants when she falls in love. When you listen to the song, it's everything a girl/woman hears in her head when she falls in love. Here are the lyrics:
I'm mad about you
You're mad about me babe
Couple of fools run wild aren't we
Pushing the day into the nighttime
Somewhere between the two
We start to see
Mad about you (Mad about you)
Lost in your eyes (Reason aside)
Mad about love (Mad about you)
You and I
Something 'bout you
Right here beside me
Touches the touched part of me like I can't believe
Pushing the night into the daytime
Watching the sky's first light
While the city sleeps
What did I do to you Belinda Carlisle? I mean seriously! If you haven't heard 'Mad About You' or listened to it in a while, check it out. One last note to the Mom's everywhere, give the album Belinda to your little girl, it ruins you in the best way possible!

I heart Belinda Carlisle
I love this! I completely understand too. I have a young daughter and I hate the idea of Katy Perry and Britney Spears being out there for her first. BRAVO!
