The City is in the middle of a crime spree. The mayor decides that the restrictions on entering the Police Academy are too strict. The need for more police officer overrides the caliber of cop accepted on the force. In other words they just want bodies out there. This in turn opens the door for a variety of interesting people to enter the Academy. Carey Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg) is given the opportunity to join the Academy or go to jail. Socialite Karen Thompson (Kim Cattrell) wants to meet a different type of man. Florist Moses Hightower (Bubba Smith) wants a new job and career. It also allows the overzealous gun nuts like Takleberry (David Graf) to try and join the force.
Here's the problem those instructors of the Police Academy who have to train these knucklehead's are not very happy with this new program. Commandant Lassard (George Gaynes) and Lt. Harris (G.W. Bailey) are not happy at all about this situation.
From the moment he arrives at the Academy Mahoney does everything he can to get out of the place. Lt. Harris wants to oblige him as the two men butt heads from the moment they lay eyes on each other. Mahoney eventually comes around and realizes that this is something he might want to do. Especially when he and Thompson start to fall for each other. The training is hard and if Harris can do it he wants to get rid of many of the class.
The laughs are all over the place. Like when Lassard is giving a speech and under the podium is a hooker giving him, well let's just say pleasure. 'Police Academy is a laugh a minute.
