Pole and aerial fitness at Body & Pole (Photos)

One of the awesome perks about being a woman is our fitness options. There are so many fun choices that go beyond lifting weights and hitting a treadmill. As a resident to the New York City area, I can personally vouch for so many wonderful fitness options that are unique in their own right and one of my favorites is Body & Pole.

Body & Pole is a nationally recognized studio that focuses on the aerial arts and is the biggest in New York City. Boasting over 5,000 square feet (they are currently expanding), the studio offers everything from pole fitness classes to aerial fabric, strength training, flexibility and so much more. I have taken many classes at BP and can tell you first hand just how magical the experience is.

For starters, they have hardwood floors throughout the newly renovated studio, a private room for changing (co-ed), central lounge and two rooms for classes (also a third room for private lessons). You really feel empowered to hone your craft in each studio as they have wall-to-wall mirrors for better visibility and poles that reach over 12 feet high.

Pole champions from around the world and the United States come to train in this studio which makes it a real New York City gem. In fact, many of the Body & Pole instructors are acclaimed pole artists ranking in international and national competitions. Michelle Stanek for example is not only a great instructor, but the 2012 United States Pole Dance Federation Champion.

Pole fitness has become a growing and respected phenomenon in the fitness community and challenges our bodies in an exciting way. It’s acrobatic, challenges flexibility and tones muscles you never knew you had. A class at Body & Pole takes these concepts and puts them into practice by pushing you to find your inner artist. The teachers each have their own style and make the journey amazing. By the time you are finished a class (typically 90 minutes), you feel as if you could join Cirque du Soleil. This is hands down my favorite pole place in New York City (I have been to a few) that doesn't disappoint!
