Podcast Review: Defenders Podcast

Summary

The Defenders Podcast is a weekly podcast available on iTunes, the Reasonable Faith website, and certain podcast applications on the Google Play Store.

The Defenders Podcast contains the audio from a weekly lecture that Dr. William Lane Craig gives about the history and structure of various theological concepts. While the subject matter tends to be somewhat technical, it is presented in a way that is easy to understand.

The Good

This weekly lecture is an excellent resource for Christians in general, as it helps to define and understand the concepts and ideas that form an understanding of the Christian faith in a way that is easy to understand. Craig does an excellent job of presenting various viewpoints on a doctrine in an impartial, thorough and fair manner. While the material goes fairly in-depth, it is broken up into digestible chunks with a Q&A session at the end of each lecture to clarify the material. The faithful listener to this podcast will emerge educated on the history and development of theology and doctrine.

The Bad

The concepts discussed in this podcast are fairly academic with very little “ground level” application. Additionally, while Craig discusses various theologians and the development of Christian doctrines, there is very little reference back to the biblical texts themselves.

Conclusion

This is a podcast for those who would like to be better educated on theology and Church History. It addresses questions the audience might have about the nature of Christ, views on Creation, and thorny issues like predestination and free will. It is not a podcast for direct Biblical exegesis, preaching, or encouragement.
