It was the last in the series to use the classic gameplay before the switch to a fast paced action style. Before departing from its roots, Resident Evil 0 left an unforgettable story with two heroes that took gamers back to the terror before the Mansion Incident.
RE0 answers all the unanswered questions in the story while closing all plot holes that have long puzzled gamers.
Set one day before the events of Resident Evil, S.T.A.R.S. Bravo team is deployed to investigate a series of murders in the Arklay Mountains. However their helicopter malfunctions and they are forced to crash land.
The team split up and Rebecca Chambers stumbles upon a train, on board, she discovers that it is infested with zombies. After a little exploration she meets Billy Coen, an ex-Marine who is on death row. As the train begins speeding out of control towards a cliff, the two manage to apply the brakes and divert its course towards an abandon Umbrella Faculty.
Witnessing the new beginning has added a diffrent ambiance to the story of one of the greatest games of all time. Amidst the new origin is a modernistic style of terror that has truly frightens gamers in manner not seen since Resident Evil 2.
But were the game really out did itself is with the partner zapping system. This has allowed players to play as both main characters through the whole game at the same time. Hence gamers will need to use strategy in working both characters by diverting the action to utilize each of their special abilities.
The only drawback is that such a work of art was only made available to little children who play Game Cube rather then the traditional fans who prefer the Playstation 2. Having Resident Evil 0 exclusively for the Game Cube felt like a slap to the legions of loyal fans that have witnessed the series progression.
Resident Evil 0 was the last of the traditional RE games but it gave solidified the gameplays legacy with features that have set new standards into the next generation of horror games.
