Pizza Rock claims to take pizza to the next level and if you give it a try, it will make a believer out of you. This is not your everyday pizza joint. When we arrived the rock music was pounding and the Travel Channel was filming an episode of "Food Paradise" - yes, the food is THAT good!
Tony Gemignani is an 11 time World Pizza Champion. Combine that with the vision of George Karpaty and the nightlife expertise of Trevor Hewitt and these three best friends have come up with a winner. Check out the Pizza Rock website at: www.pizzarocklasvegas.com .
The menu features a huge selection of gourmet pizzas with both Italian and American pizza styles, all cooked in one of the restaurant's four different ovens. Napoletana pizzas are fired in a 900 degree oven and includes the "Margherita" pizza with a limit of 73 made per day - it was the World Pizza Cup Winner in Naples, Italy. Their Romana pizzas are very long thin pizzas that can serve up to 5 people and are cooked in a 700 degree Electric Brick Oven. The American Originals are prepared in a 550 degree gas brick oven and feature tomato sauce, mozzarella and a rustic medium crust, with 5 different variations of artisan toppings. Their California pizzas use Caputo Flour and are cooked in their 900 degree wood fire oven. They also have a weekly special they call the "Farmers Market" that features ingredients from the Downtown Farmers Market. But wait, there is more! Their Classic Italian Pizzas are prepared in the 650 degree Gas Brick Oven and includes the "Cal Italia" which was the Gold Medal Winner in the Food Network Pizza Champions Challenge. Along with the vine-ripened tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese on the Classic Italian pizzas, the "Cal Italia" also includes Asiago, Imported Gorgonzola, Sweet Fig Preserve, Prosciutto di Parma, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and Balsamic Reduction. Wow - you really need to go to the website and check out the ingredients they put on these pizzas! This list of heavenly pizza selections isn't done yet - the New York/New Haven pizzas include the "New Yorker" which was the winner of "Best Traditional Pizza in the World, Las Vegas". We tried that one and can see why it won the award! Their Sicilian Style serves up to 5 people and is prepared in the 550 degree gas brick oven and includes the "La Regina" which was the Gold Cup Winner in the International Pizza Championships in Parma, Italy. If you are a fan of cracker thin crust, try one of the Chicago Cracker Thin offerings which are prepared in the 650 degree gas brick oven using Ceresota Flour. They even offer a Gluten Free pizza.
Pizza Rock is more than just pizza - they also have a selection of pastas, calzones, Stromboli, antipasti and salads all with a focus on authentic Italian ingredients and organically-grown produce. All fresh pasta and many other ingredients are made on-premises. Be sure to check out the grinders, meatball subs and house-made vanilla soft serve and toppings too! Just in case someone in your party isn't in the mood for pizza, they also offer burgers and sandwiches.
The inside of the restaurant is much larger than it appears from the outside - there is even a big-rig truck parked in there! They have a full bar that focuses on hand-crafted artisan cocktails with an extensive draft and bottled beer list. Their collection of wines places a focus on California and Italy. The seating is very comfortable and their are views of the many TV's featuring Rock performances from anywhere in the restaurant. There is a room off to the side that is perfect for larger groups. Our group of 15 had a wonderful experience and the wait staff were friendly and efficient. They are open late and have a killer sound system with DJ's Thursday - Saturday nights. According the their website, guests are encouraged to go for the food and stay for the fun!
If you are just out for a stroll in the downtown area and are in the mood for pizza, you can order and be served from the sidewalk and they have outdoor seating so you can enjoy your pizza while you "people-watch".
Pizza Rock is a welcome addition to the downtown area. We were so impressed that we will be going back VERY soon. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!
