After more than 3000 concerts across the globe, contemporary world music guitarist and recording artist Pierre Bensusan celebrates 40 years as a live performer with Encore. This triple disc, 35-track recording is a musical journey which features Bensusan’s live performances that he had accumulated and had recorded by local radio. Many of the tracks on Encore are from those recorded at The Prism Club in Charlottesville, VA USA from 1999-2005. “Over the years I had collected dozens of recordings that I had mostly never listened to,” explains Bensusan. “What you have on Encore is a selection of these particular moments from various shows and different time periods,” he continues.
These recordings span his entire career and showcase his trademark DADGAD tuning. Also known as D-modal or Celtic tuning, it is accomplished by tuning the first, second and sixth strings down a whole tone (two and a half steps). Over the past 35 years, Pierre has become widely recognized as the world master of this type of guitar tuning.
Bensusan also reveals that his lifelong friend and collaborator, master luthier George Lowden, has also begun work on a special 40th Anniversary Bensusan signature model guitar which is due for release in January 2014. Lowden guitars will be teaming up to support Pierre’s 40th Anniversary World tour, covering Europe, the Middle East, North America and select Asian markets.
“This is a really wonderful way to go through life, traveling to different places and connecting with and bringing joy to fans in various cultures,” says Bensusan. Encore is really for them, a time to share special moments from previous concerts and to listen to Bensusan evolve as a composer and guitarist.
