Piccini is known for the highest quality wines from Tuscany. While all of their wines are fantastic, I think I’ve just had my favorite wine that they produce. Their Piccini, Brunello di Montalcino, Riserva, 2008 is fantastic. Deep garnet red with aromas of cherry and violets meld together with scents of dark chocolate and spices. The aromatic flower aromas become more pronounce as the wine opens up and softens. The palate is rich and full and leather and earthiness lie behind upfront cherry and spices. The tannins a strong and firm but soften as the wine is swirled in the glass. This wine really opens up and its flavors really show as you sip it.
A special wine like this deserves a special dish to pair with. The famous Tuscan Pappardelle alla Cinghiale, the famous wild boar dish would be the perfect match for this wine.
