The best thing about "Sweet Talk" is Natalie Zea's performance as a bored phone sex operator who connects with a down-and-out author suffering from writer's block.

Only Zea's character Delilah isn't just your run-of-the-mill phone sex girl.

She just so happens to be well-versed in Russian literature, which conveniently allows her to conjure up a romantic fantasy love affair with Jeffrey Vincent Parise's author character Samson.

However, Delilah is also a troubled young woman struggling with finances, who has odd traumatic hallucinations of a mysterious male figure silently sitting next to her bed at nights.

Meanwhile, Samson is a gun-toting struggling writer at his wits end, who lives off his credit cards, which he uses to call up the phone sex line after seeing an ad in a newspaper.

With names like Samson and Delilah, there's an obvious level of tongue-in-cheekiness to Peter Lefcourt's script based on his original play, which taps into the type of romance novel sex fantasies that one might expect to read while browsing in the Barnes & Nobles romance section.

"Sweet Talk" is director Terri Hanauer's first feature film -- and she does an admirable job of extracting memorable performances from her leads, as well as the supporting cast, who also happen to turn up as various characters within the film's fantasy sequences.

As low-budget indie romance dramedies go, "Sweet Talk" delivers a surprisingly enjoyable experience that might even leave some wanting more.

"Sweet Talk" will be available through iTunes and VOD on Dec. 15.
