Glendale has an array of ethnic eateries, but Vietnamese cuisine doesn’t come to mind when you think of the small city. Pho Citi, a tiny restaurant that could be the Vietnamese answer to Chipotle, is located in the heart of Downtown Glendale, not far from the Americana (it’s across the street). We stopped in to grab some pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) before a movie, but were surprised to find a more detailed menu than we’d anticipated. They offer a number of vermicelli dishes, as well as rice dishes (and, of course, pho) with excellent charbroiled beef, shrimp, chicken, tofu and vegetables. You order at the counter and scarf down the semi-healthy fare while people watching. And it’s cheap (for Los Angeles), with most entrees coming in under $7. Apparently it also doubles as a good study alternative to Starbucks—many Glendale Community College kids were camped out with their books. It has a nice, unobtrusive (if not homey) atmosphere and the food is tasty. They have several locations and all info is on the website: http://www.phociti.com/.
