Philosophy Resurface - The Microdelivery Dual-Phase Peel is on the pricy side at $69 for the kit. This is a product that has been around for many years. At it's inception, it was forward thinking and slightly revolutionary.

As a chemical exfoliant, it has some great ingredients. However, if you have sensitive skin be prepared to look like a tomato and have no plans to either see anyone you don't want your best face forward with, or plans to exit your home. That being said, while not the most aggressive, this product simply put, isn't as good as what modern skincare has to offer.

If you like many steps in your skincare routine, then you might like Philosophy Resurface The Microdelivery Dual-Phase Peel, as it does take a few steps to complete which would meet your ritual requirement. However, if you don't like a lot of steps, then this product isn't for you.

Steps to a good basic home facial:

  1. Cleans 2 times
  2. Chemical exfoliant
  3. Extraction
  4. Mask - Clay &/or Moisturizing depending on how much time you have
  5. Treatment for your desired problem areas
  6. A great moisturizer, hydrate internally with water, and a good night sleep
  7. (I skipped the steaming of the skin because most people who are new to steaming will mess this part up and make their skin worse.)

As you can see there are already many steps to keep your skin clear and healthy. Mind you, you shouldn't give yourself a facial more than 2 times a month unless you are properly trained. Certain products involved can actually aggravate your condition when used in excess.

Personally, I think that this product is no longer necessary. There are too many steps. It is overpriced and wasteful.

In this day and age you can get a great 25-30% glycolic acid, lactic acid, etc. chemical exfoliant for a comparable, if not better price point. The quality of Vitamin C products to date, as well as peptides are also quite good, and boldly stated, better than what is in Philosophy's Microdelivery Dual-Phase Peel. There is really no need to use this product, especially if it is out of your price range.

Straight from the website:

What they claim:
A two-step, exfoliating, skin makeover that not only exfoliates the skin, it delivers vitamin C and peptides. A new approach to skin rejuvenation while resurface and replenish.

Reality:

This product has been around for many years. It is no longer groundbreaking or a new approach, if anything it is no longer relevant. In this day and age, The Microdelivery Peel's ingredients of, Lactic/Salicylic Activating Gel and Vitamin C/Peptide resurfacing crystals just aren't cutting edge.

The kicker is it's not user friendly. I'm 100% sure someone will run out of one step before the other, thus resulting in excess product and a waste of money. There are better chemical exfoliant products out there that you don't need a license to purchase.

One product I can recommend is the Astara Exfoliating Marine Treatment, which includes both Glycolic and Lactic Acids. While the price point is high, around $50, it is a one step product, when used properly (1-2 times a month) that will last you a long time, while being less expensive than the Philosophy, and it works. There really are better products on the market at this point in history. Not to mention the many at home treatments one can make from ordinary foods.

Should you choose to give Philosophy's The Microdelivery Peel a try, make sure you can return it. If it isn't in your budget please don't break your bank in this economy on something that you can find a comparable product, that will get you equal, if not better result, for less $$$$.

I give it 2 stars because it is not totally useless and if you are rich and don't care about wasteful products, and can throw around $70+ after tax, then this could work for you. However, if you are rich then I pose this question, why aren't you buying better products?

As always, keep your receipts and happy shopping.
