Firmly entrenched as one of my top 3 favorite cookies, I take any opportunity I can to pick up any new Milano flavors I see when I'm doing some shopping.
With fall quickly approaching, Pepperidge Farm has put out a Pumpkin Spice flavored Milano. I love most thing pumpkin flavored so this seemed like it would be worth picking up. The smell of pumpkin and fall spice that comes from the bag is very pleasant and sets the expectation that a very pleasant treat will follow. Unfortunately, the scent from the bag is the best thing about these Milanos.
The pumpkin spice flavor is incorporated by adding an orange colored cream on top of the traditional chocolate layer inside the Milanos. The orange cream looks more like something that belongs on cheap Halloween cookie. And the take confirms this. It is a very faint flavor more reminiscent of spices you would find in pumpkin pie than pumpkin itself. It does not pack a noticeable punch and tastes more like an afterthought than the primary flavor profile of the cookie.
It also becomes a nuisance for those trying to enjoy the chocolate flavor of the cookie as it seems to cancel out either flavor rather than add to the normal flavors of the Milano cookie.
Sadly, this is one Milano I'd caution against trying. Even at a sale price its not worth your time so keep searching for that pumpkin flavored treat. With fall coming I'm sure there will be more than enough options to choose from.
