Peekaboos: 'Stay Positive' (2013)

If you read my reviews on any kind of a regular basis, you know I don't review Punk albums too terrible often. A lot of Punk music I hear today sounds mostly the same to my ears... but "Stay Positive" is quite the exception.

Let me clarify, "Peekaboos" doesn't seem to be a typical anti-establishment type Punk band... but they are a scattered and energetic convention bending mindless self expression type of Punk band... which I consider true Punk.

Songs on the record are rude and crude and somehow remain totally endearing and thought provoking throughout. Verses are incredibly lyrically clever, and hooks are delivered with a bite.

Frontman rolls switch back and forth between male and female, giving the record an added dynamic that it didn't even really need (because it's interesting throughout on structure and lyrics alone). This just packs in the appeal.

Honestly they're best summed up with one of their own lyrics (from their song "Big Black Truth")... "a lil bit Charley Manson, a lil bit Chucky Cheese". They even have a song called "Let's Talk About Your Big Butt"... what other reasons do you need to check out this record?

"Stay Positive" by Peekaboos is available at a Pick Your Own Price Deal via their Bandcamp page.
