Paul Krugman and liberal logic

An article by Paul Krugman

On Jun 8th 2014, economist Paul Krugman wrote another bizarre column claiming that man made global warming is a proven fact and that libertarians are against science because they do not believe in manmade global warming,

The following paragraph is from the above mentioned article.

“Well, think about global warming from the point of view of someone who grew up taking Ayn Rand seriously, believing that the untrammeled pursuit of self-interest is always good and that government is always the problem, never the solution. Along come some scientists declaring that unrestricted pursuit of self-interest will destroy the world, and that government intervention is the only answer. It doesn’t matter how market-friendly you make the proposed intervention; this is a direct challenge to the libertarian worldview.”

What is really bizarre is that anyone would claim there is scientific consensus on manmade global warming when people on the left have started calling it climate change because of recent global cooling.

On December 23rd, 2009, Human Events listed the top 10 reasons not to believe in manmade global warming. Below are the top two reasons.

“1. There is “no real scientific proof” that the current warming is caused by the rise of greenhouse gases from man’s activity.

2. Man-made carbon dioxide emissions throughout human history constitute less than 0.00022% of the total naturally emitted from the mantle of the earth during geological history.”

When all the reasons why man made global warming is insignificant are viewed from a nonpolitical perspective, it should be obvious to anyone that man made global warming is nothing other than a political football.

That Paul Krugman chose to criticize Ayn Rand is interesting in that the failure of the current government controlled United States economy is exactly the opposite of what Ayn Rand recommended.
“Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand is one of the most popular books in United States and its continuing popularity suggests that many people are taking Ayn Rand seriously.
What Ayn Rand recommends is the kind of laissez faire economy that the founding fathers put in place which is exactly what libertarians want to return to. Liberals like Paul Krugman want to scare people into keeping a government run economy.
