Parkour becomes life and death in Run

Over the last few years Free Running and Parkour have been slowly making it’s mark on the world and has been featured in numerous films. The latest aptly titled Run, looks to bring it to the focus once again and is bringing along William Moseley, Adrian Pasdar, and Eric Roberts for the ride, but will it be able to deliver or will it be stopped in it’s tracks?

Run follows a father and son who live nomadic lifestyle trying to evade the mob while using parkour skills to commit robberies to make a living. Now they have settled back in New York and started to make a real life again and hopes to leave the criminal world behind, but when one last job goes wrong, pasts’ are revealed and they will have to put everything on the line for a normal life. This film is a lot like those that came along in the 80s and 90s that is so clichéd that it works on some level, but still has plenty of flaws. Sure it’s hard to believe that he just happens to go to the school where all the parkour people happen to be, but you have to let stuff like that go if you are too buy into these kinds of films. The story is one that has been done hundreds of different ways and often better, but is probably the only kind that would have worked, The acting is decent for the most part, but there are numerous pretty bad performances that is sure to be a deciding factor for some viewers. The real focal point is obviously the parkour and while there is plenty of it they never really pushed the boundaries the way they should have. There are some talented people working on this film and sometimes it’s the cinematography and others the movements are just executed to slowly to give it the punch it needed.

Anyone that is a fan or participant of parkour will most likely enjoy this film for those aspects, but as a whole it just doesn’t pack the punch it needs to be more than just a generic action movie. Pasdar and Roberts add a small level of star power to give it some legitimacy, but not enough to take to the heights that it was no doubt aiming for.
