Paranormal film review: 'Night of the Comet,' a campy fun classic

"Night of the Comet," is a strange and funny movie about the end of the world. This movie underlines such films has "The Omega Man," "Last Man on Earth," but this movie instead has two teenage girls who are our heroes. Also a group of crazed scientists and a man named Hector are left after the comets make zombies and the ones who didn't turned, turned into just plain old ash. Sounds strange? It's a pretty strange movie but a strange movie that sort of makes you smile. The two actresses make the movie and give the audience a laugh. The director was probably thinking, let's make a movie that is funny, has some horror aspects, and shows that teenage girls can kick butt.

As you watch it you can understand why it's a called a cult film. The older and younger sister team are great, they talk about boys and can shoot a zombie in a blink of an eye. The acting is a little campy but fun and the dialogue, love how snappy it is. It has it's flaws but overall if you're looking for a pretty interesting campy flick this one should be in your collection. A great scene when their shopping and get attack, it becomes an intense but yet hilarious action sequence. Basically, it's neat to have the heroes as you could say Valley Girls though they know how to take care of themselves because of their Green Beret father. They are sarcastic when in danger and aren't entirely afraid of being part of the last ones on earth. It's a playful movie. Anyway, it's not terrifying though has some jumpy parts. It has a lot of humor and action to keep you watching. Has some gore but not overly done. It's the perfect 80s satirical look at depressing end of the world horror dramas.

If you have Netflix Instance you watch it here, "Night of the Comet." Overall, this 1984 b-movie is 3 1/2 out of 5 stars, not perfect but it's just a fun movie. You don't need to take it seriously because it's a film that sort of makes fun of films like "The Omega Man." The ending is sweet. If you haven't seen this campy film, check it out!
