Paper Shower is a nifty little product, an "Of course!" idea. Moisturizing towelettes packaged as a two-towel set. One with moisturizers and cleansers to clean away sweat, grime, and dirt. The second a soft dry towel.
For anyone who bikes to work, exercises at lunch, or just plays away from soap and water, this is a great product. But the use doesn't stop there.
The company sent a sample which I intended to try after a workout. Instead, in the middle of a marathon gardening session, I needed to make a quick trip to the garden store. I was hot, smelly, and had mud streaking my face, arms and neck - the kind of dirty you get from mucking about in a vegetable patch with the sun on your back.
So I pulled out the Paper Shower. And I liked it.
The moist towel was big, had moisturizers, and removed everything but the really deep grime under my fingernails. Hands, arms, neck, face and armpits were presentable in a minute or so, and though I didn't feel wet, I used the dry towel and found that it completed the mini-grooming. (In fairness, it was a slightly breezy spring day, so it's possible that I would have felt much wetter on a summer afternoon).
Invented by Dr. Jim Bahcall, an avid cyclist, the story is that as he biked to work, he stopped at a Starbucks and wanted to clean up before going in. He pulled a moist towelette from his bike pack and proceeded to wipe his face, hands, arms and legs but felt like he had just walked out of a shower without a towel to dry off. It was at that moment the thought came to him, why not include a dry towelette in combination with the moist towelette pack.
So was born the first combo-pack wet and dry towelette package: Paper Shower. Below are my various comments and notes:
Product: Paper Shower dual-pack towelettes
Sales copy from site: The wet towelette is uniquely designed to release the maximum amount of fluid when applied to the skin. The dry towelette is uniquely designed to efficiently absorb the excess wet towelette fluid without removing the integrated moisturizing ingredients from the skin.
The wet and dry towelettes are durable and will not fray or tear when used; yet are soft to the touch!
The wet and dry towelettes are partially made from recycled materials.
Pros: Easy to carry; a nice cleaning agent with moisturizers; good sized (9" x 12") towelettes. Small amounts of alcohol so there's not an overly-dried out feeling on the skin.
Cons: The moist towelette left my hands feeling slightly sticky for a minute or so; at about $1 apiece more expensive than the family sized containers of wipes that many people carry; and my biggest complaint: with my hands wet from the moist towelette I had problems opening the dry one. (The obvious solution being to open both packs at the same time.)
Availability: Amazon.com or at the Paper Shower site (various-size multipacks start at 6 for $7.50 and go up to 54 for $45.90 - shipping is free).
Other notes: Paper Shower will also make a terrific addition to an emergency kit, and I'm planning on getting some to keep in my earthquake kit.
