“Wheel of the Damned” by Pale Robin is a lush and dynamic Indie Folk piece.
In tracks like “Morning Sweater / Can Never You Rest a Hand 1” the eerie sound of a saw being played by a bow can be heard, defining the mood of the song with a seldom used texture. As the piece progresses, it deviates down several different paths, even indulging in accordion and horn fills. Songs with these kinds of unconventional structures keep things interesting, never repeating any sound too many times.
The track “Necromancer” flows with a sinister type of style, the creepy lead piano line serving as the backbone of the track. The outro suddenly kicks things into an upbeat incarnation of the chorus, before transitioning perfectly into the next track.
Overall “Wheel of the Damned” sounds very much like a story being unfolded before the listener. The gripping themes paired with a knack for unique song structure makes for one fascinating listen.
