The Pacific Northwest Ballet never ceases to amaze, especially around the holidays. That’s when they bring out “Nutcracker,” the ballet based on E. T. A. Hoffman’s “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.”
With a musical score by Tchaikovsky, brilliantly conducted by Stephen Radcliffe, the opening night was a breathtaking production that brought the house to its feet more than once.
Having not seen Nutcracker since the Moscow Ballet performed it in Seattle over twenty years ago, I was captivated. The choreography was amazing, not just because it was opening night and everything went perfectly.
The children especially were crowd favorites, with the Baby Mice capturing the bulk of the oooh’s and aaah’s. I can’t fathom how the youngsters can be so well behaved; they were professional throughout.
With a full top-shelf bar, including local and international wines and pre-pouring (your requested drink is ready for you at intermission, no waiting in line!), the show is definitely worth the cost of admission. Amazing holiday fun for the entire family, this is truly a show that is not to be missed.
The show runs through December 27that McCaw Hall (formerly the Seattle Opera House) in downtown Seattle. Tickets are available online at: http://www.pnb.org/Season/10-11/Nutcracker/#Tickets
