American thriller writers often lose focus when entering into the deep waters of political intrigue. Many in Tinseltown are consumed with the liberal agenda of blaming America for all of the world's ills. As such, their desire to present their agenda to audiences often inhibits the crucial plot points of a solid thriller. Just look at Matt Damon's last two flicks, "Elysium" and "Promised Land" as perfect examples.
The British are more savvy. When they tie in political intrigue into a thriller, it's not with the hidden intent of demeaning their own country. "Closed Circuit" is a fine thriller, with tension and twists, that doesn't let the agenda get in the way.
