Outdoor Day # 43-Deer Loop Trail in Solstice Canyon

Solstice Canyon hiking

The shady trail beside Solstice Creek that leads to a charming waterfall is a favorite of local hikers. In my great Outdoor Day-Solstice Canyon- Spring Bouquet, I share the Rising Sun Trail that is a stiff climb that takes you to a lonely back canyon overlooking the Sycamore and Oaks lining the creek far below. You can catch this 3-mile trail at the falls and loop back to the parking lot.
On the way to the falls you will notice a fork in the trail that says Deer Trail Loop. That option is for those who need to feel the burn and would enjoy a sweeping view of Point Dume and the chance to see a bit of wildlife. It is the least traveled of the trails and therefore has its own special rewards and dangers. Nick of “Hikes You Can Do” fame has generously allowed me to share the wonderful video he created that takes you with him on the Deer Trail Loop

How green is my garden?

I always think I will take the Deer Loop, but ultimately stick to my tried and true Rising Sun Trail that offers sparkling vistas of the Pacific along with a cooling sea breeze blowing up canyon.

You decide which is right for you.

Directions: Take Corral Canyon off of PCH about 3.5 miles north of Malibu Canyon Road
