Our Families Country Cafe

Our Families Country Café – the name says it all! Although this hidden gem is a little difficult to find, it is definitely worth trying. Good food, friendly service and a quaint atmosphere filled with country décor and country music make this restaurant an appealing location for either group or family dining.

Chicken Fried Steak

The Chicken Fried Steak ($8.99 according to the online menu, but now $9.99) with homemade mashed potatoes smothered in white gravy, soup or salad, vegetable of the day and grilled dinner roll will have you hooked. Other items from the “Country Hearty Platters” that get high marks are the Fried Chicken (“Honey Stung”), and the Chicken Fried Chicken. Items that sounded delicious but we didn’t try were the Country Chops and Bone-In Ham Steak.

Family owned and operated by the Sturtz family, the Café has served Las Vegas since 1988 when it was owned by Darrell Sturtz. It is truly a family affair comprised of Jackie and Darrell Sturtz, Jason and Shyla Sturtz. In 2002, the Café was purchased from Darrell by his son, Jason. Although the Café is now in a new location, you’ll still be reminded of food your mother or grandmother used to make, except it’s their dad, Darrell, who is in the kitchen doing the cooking! Their motto: “Home Cookin’ without the Mess”.

The food was very fresh and, for the most part, homemade. Thursday’s special was the Meatloaf Dinner, served with mashed potatoes, green beans, dinner roll, and choice of soup or salad. The Soup of the Day – Homemade Hearty Beef – was delicious! Be sure to check for their Specials. Kids eat Free on Tuesdays with the purchase of an adult entree. There is also a punch card they give to earn 5% off 2nd visit, Free Dessert 5th visit, 2 for 1 Entree 8th visit and eat Free on your birthday! If you want one, just ask!

The Hot Pastrami, covered with Swiss Cheese on Grilled Rye with Deli mustard was a thing of beauty and only $7.49. They also have a Country Fried Steak Sandwich, Fish Sandwich, various Chicken Sandwiches, and Burgers. Burgers and “Country Favorites” are served with your choice of Fries, Homemade Potato Salad or Macaroni Salad, or Fresh Fried Potato Chips.

If you are a burger fan, there will be a little decision making involved regarding your 1/3 pound, fresh ground, flame-broiled burger. Do you want a Classic Cheese Burger, Philly Burger, Bacon Cheese Burger, 2-Step Burger (Double Decker), California Burger, Mushroom Swiss Burger, Chili Burger, or Cowboy Burger? For descriptions of each of these creations and a full menu, check out the Café’s website at: .

The Cafe's “House Specialty” is their Rib-Eye Steak Sandwich, which is a 6 oz. USDA Choice Tenderized Flame-Broiled Steak served on a French roll with Grilled Onions, Lettuce, Tomato, Mayo and Pickle for $8.95. The Rib-Eye Sandwich, along with the Club Triple Decker and other menu items listed as “Country Sandwiches” can be complimented by their Fries, Fresh Fried Potato Chips, Homemade Potato or Marcaroni salad for $1.35. The $2.00 32 oz. sodas are HUGE and refills are included.

Although we went for dinner, Our Families Country Café is also open for Breakfast. Be sure to check out their Breakfast Menu on their website: It would definitely be a mistake not to go back and try out their breakfast selections when we are in the area!

Their desserts looked delicious, but everyone in our party was too full to try anything. All in all, our dinner at Our Families Country Café was an enjoyable and filling experience!
