In last week’s episode, we learned that the residents of Storybrooke returned to their homeland, sort of. They still reside in two places. In Fairytale Land, one year ago, the gang is trying to reclaim their lives while facing an evil spell. In Storybrooke, the residents have no clue what happened the last year and they are actively trying to figure out who did this and why. So let the Witch Hunt begin!
Storm the castle
Regina figures out that The Wicked Witch has stolen her castle after a flying monkey tries to steal Robin Hood's son. She has no idea what the Wicked Witch has against her but decides to break into the castle using an underground tunnel. Robin Hood tags along but when Regina reaches the castle, she paralyzes him to make a sleeping potion for herself. She can’t bear losing Henry and decides to save the castle for the others while putting herself out of her misery. Just as she’s about to prick her finger with the sleeping curse, the Wicked Witch interrupts her with a surprising revelation. They’re sisters!
The whole Wicked thing makes total sense now, but most fans already guessed that. It seems the Wicked Witch suffered from cradle cap, a condition that turns the skin a yellowish, scaly green. Cora, Regina’s mother, gave her up as a result and sent her to Oz. Rumplestiltskin then added to her rejection by choosing Regina instead of her to cast the original curse. Now she’s out for revenge and determined to steal Regina’s happiness. However, the plan backfires because a new enemy means a new reason to live for Regina and there’s nothing that Regina loves more than a fight.
With the residents of Storybrooke mysteriously disappearing and the rest missing their memory, Emma uses her lie-detector super power to figure out who has cursed them. At a town hall meeting, the entire town blames Regina and she makes an evil escape but the whole thing was a ruse. She and Emma are working together to find out who really cursed the town.
Regina tries unsuccessfully to make a memory potion to make Henry remember her, but when it fails, they decide to spread the word that the potion was successful to find the real culprit. It’s another ruse to draw out the guilty party and they get the biggest mouth they can find to spread the news: Grumpy.
The plan works and they trap a hooded Zelena/Wicked Witch in Regina’s office but she’s able to escape Regina’s blood lock spell. When they arrive at Snow’s apartment, David tells them that the flying monkeys are turning the residents into more flying monkeys as well. It doesn’t take long to realize that the Wicked Witch is behind the curse. Of course, this version of Regina doesn’t know she’s her sister.
In the meantime, Zelena retreats to a cellar where she’s keeping an unexpected prisoner, Rumplestiltskin.
Overall, it was a solid episode. A lot was revealed, which means that this season is going to be good. It’s honestly more exciting than Pan was before everyone realized how awesome he turned out to be. Once just proved that not only is it not easy to be green, it’s downright evil.
