OUAT Fan Theory: Queen of Hearts
Cora (Barbara Hershey) was a malignant narcissistic. Someone who loves to inflict pain onto their victim. They devote an excessive amount of time thinking of ways to torment them. Creativity is a huge source of pride for narcissists. They generally make sure there are no witnesses to their cruelty. They present one face to the world. Everything they do is in your best interest.
But it’s another story when the audience is gone. In their mind you NEVER tell them no. They expect you to obey and act without hesitation. Any defiance is an act of war. Gaslight to slowly destroy you. Your role is to serve their ego in whatever capacity they deem necessary. Your suffering is their entertainment. No request demanded of their scapegoat is unreasonable.
Anyone constantly lurking in the background is probably an enabler. Think of them as a henchman. Enablers might protest but they never interfere with the plot. Their role of inaction allows the scheme to continue. They don’t want the narcissist to focus their rage on them. So they turn a blind eye.
Husband Henry (Tony Perez) was her enabler. Daughter Regina (Lana Parrilla) was her scapegoat. Young Cora (Rose McGowan) was saddled with a drunken deadbeat father. She was a slave running the family mill singlehandedly. They rarely had enough to eat.
Young Princess Eva (Eva Allan) publicly humiliated her during a palace delivery. King Xavier (Joaquim de Almeida) ordered her to kneel. She burned with hatred. Silently vowing to make the world pay. Young Cora caught the eye of Prince Henry (Zak Santiago) and with help from Rumple (Robert Carlyle) she won his hand in marriage by spinning gold out of straw.
Ambitious Young Cora made sure she was invaluable. The newfound ability was used to restore the kingdom’s wealth. She had a child so she would be the power behind the throne. Nothing gave her more satisfaction than seeing the populace kneeling to her at baby Regina’s christening.
The older Cora used magic to bludgeon her ungrateful daughter. She killed Queen Eva (Rena Sofer) so Regina could take her place. She killed Regina’s soul mate Daniel (Noah Bean) to make her single. She created an accident involving young Snow White (Bailee Madison) to meet widower King Leopold (Richard Schiff). She accepted his marriage proposal.
Cora takes advantage of Regina’s isolation in StoryBrooke. She needs her broken. Telling her they must acquire the Dark One’s (Robert Carlyle) dagger to enslave him. They would force him to kill Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin), Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) and Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison).
So Regina would be the only mother Henry Mills (Jared S. Gilmore) has. The plan changed when Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) poisoned Rumple. Cora must kill Rumple with the dagger before he dies to inherit his powers. As the new Dark One, she would be unstoppable.
