Oscar's lackluster fashion year (Photos)

Each year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards Oscars to the most outstanding acting performances, films and filmmakers of the year. This star studded event celebrates fashion almost as much as it does the movie industry. Viewers all over the world rush to their televisions to get a glimpse of celebrities wearing the likes of Prada, Dior and Armani. When it comes right down to it, almost everyone desires a glamour fix once in a while. Unfortunately, this year’s red carpet fashions failed to fascinate. Shortage of the following style ingredients left many Oscar fans wanting a “do over”:

1. Color: A sea of nude, blush, beige, black and white blanketed the Dolby Theatre. Not enough color and repetition of similar shades sucked the excitement out of the show. Thank you Jennifer Garner and Kerry Washington for breathing life back into the festivities;

2. Personal style: A gorgeous gown does not ensure a stellar image. Jennifer Lawrence looked ill at ease in her cumbersome but exquisite gown because it didn't jive with her personality. One the other hand, Jane Fonda took everyone’s breath away last night because she dressed authentically and owned every ounce of her image. Adele ignited the stage for the same reason;

3. Risk Taking: Why play it safe at the Oscars? This is the night to go larger than life by pushing the envelope with clothing, hair, makeup and jewels. Hooray for Barbara Streisand who wore multiple ornate rings and a semi-sheer leg revealing dress at age 70.Now that's real glamour.
