Promotional activities for "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" commenced in the summer of 2013. Finally, the film is being released. So why not take a look at 2004's "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy."
The first "Anchorman" film is set in the 1970s. It stars Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy, a self-important news anchor who assumes the whole world perceives him as a television journalist of the highest order. He works with an equally underwhelming news team. Among them is Brick Tamland (played by Steve Carell), a dimwitted weatherman, and Brian Fantana (played by Paul Rudd), a field reporter. Their boss (played by Fred Willard) hires a female reporter, Veronica Corningstone (played by Christina Applegate). The guys are sexist and are not happy about this, but Ron finds himself falling for her.
"Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" features one of Will Ferrell's funniest performances. His character is not particularly likeable, but Ferrell is so good, we still enjoy watching him. Christina Applegate is equally good as Veronica, the ambitious new reporter. There are many great supporting performances. Vince Vaughn is very funny as a journalist who works for a rival station.
Director Adam McKay does a good job recreating the 1970s. The costume design and soundtrack are spot on. In a party scene early in the film, the song "Grazing in the Grass" plays.
This movie is hilarious. Hopefully, "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" will be as funny as this film.
