Orfila Vineyards & Winery, gorgeous views and great wine

Wine Tasting at Orfila

Orfila Vineyards & Winery boasts gorgeous views of their 70-acre hillside vineyard that is located in the San Pasqual Valley. Orfila opened in 1994 and has continually won awards in both international and nations wine competitions. The venue is a favorite for hosting weddings and parties because of the beautiful views.

Spend an evening sampling the many different locally grown wines Orfila has to offer, all while overlooking the scenic vineyards.

The tasting room is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and for six wine tastings and a souvenir logo wine glass to take home, it is $10 per person. Guests are able to enjoy their wine either in the tasting room, or take their glasses outside and sit in the tables that overlook the vineyard. The bartenders are very helpful, they offer suggestions about which of the wines to start with and what order to go in. They also provide background on how the wines were made and what hints of flavor tasters should be looking for.

There is no restaurant on site, but they offer a wide selection of to-go gourmet cheeses and salamis, all which can be pared with fresh breads or crackers. They offer a chipotle gouda, which pares perfectly with the salami as something to nibble on during the wine tasting.

Every day Orfila also offers free 30-minute tours at noon. The tour takes visitors on a look of the winemaking process and the steps that are taken from when the grapes are harvested from the vineyard, to when it is stored in the cellar. It is an interesting way to lead into a wine tasting, because then visitors have some idea of where their wine is coming from and how that particular wine was made. No reservations are needed, but it is recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes. For larger groups looking to have their own tours, groups of 15 or more can schedule a private tour and tasting.
