Sometimes luck, karma, and just good fortune, lead to a new and exciting restaurant. One main restaurant and bar, in babylon is a perfect example. While on business , I found "one main" a small culinary gem in the heart of babylon village. The restaurant is owned and operated by partners Freddy Tenaglia, Luciano DiRico Jr. and Luciano DiRico Sr.. I was amazed and in awe of what this ambitious group has accomplished with their state of the art social media and hip, casual sophisticated restaurant/bar. The restaurant has an active bar area, beer on tap, and comfortable tables and chairs in the dining room. One main draws an eclectic clientele of young upwardly mobile singles, couples, and families. "One Main" is a family owned restaurant with excellent american eclectic food, friendly service, and an urban style relaxed ambiance.
We were welcomed at the entrance to one main, by leandra the manager and seated at the rear of a small, intimate dining area. The lighting, handsome wood tables, white cloths and wall decorations added to a charming calm and enjoyable ambiance. Our waitress kirsten, gave us a great insight into the menu and then we began our delightful culinary journey.
For appetizers we chose an assortment of small plates to sample:
-shrimp bisque- rich, creamy and simply delicious, made witha purple basil drizzle
-caesar salad- large leafy, and made with just the right combination of parmesan cheese, romaine lettuce, croutons and a rich caesar dressing. enjoyable...
-east end crabcake- an absolutely delicious crabcake prepared with roasted peppers, scallions, breadcrumbs, and panko breadcrumbs, accompanied by IPA roumoulade- Simply fabulous and high on my list favorites..
For our main courses we chose:
-horseradish crusted salmon w/cucumber dill salad and basmati rice - Pink tender and beautifully plated.
-shrimp jambalaya-spicy shrimp, andouille sausage, peppers, onions, and basmati rice.- Large pink shrimp and dark sausages with a nice "kick" ..
-grilled 16oz ribeye steak- Comparable to the best at elite steakhouses- tender, juicy and accompanied by lobster mashed potatoes, sauteed broccoli.
We took a break for a pleasant informative conversation with chef lou who gave us an overview of the restaurant, and his family's italian heritage and impressive history in the hospitality field.
We were then served a tray of delectable sweets for our dessert: vanilla lemon cheesecake, flourless chocolate cake, fresh whipped cream, and a "off the chain" freshly prepared funnel cake with strawberry's . Awesome and totally delicious.
Kudos to One Main restaurant for their exciting blend of american food blended with a touch of italian and asian cuisine.
A terrific, hidden gem in the heart of babylon village! highly recommended and well worth the trip.
