Once Upon A Time recap/review: Manhattan; The best episode to date

If you missed Once Upon A Time tonight, you missed the GREATEST EPISODE OF ITS TWO YEAR RUN. Seriously! Baelfire’s identity was revealed and he was more connected to Storybrooke than we know. Plus Rumplestiltskin’s Ogre Wars backstory was revealed and we found out why he knows everything all the time. Then there was the father-son confrontation. It was mind-blowingly amazing!

So let’s begin with the big story. Neal, Emma’s runaway boyfriend and Henry’s father is Rumple’s long lost son, Baelfire, making Henry Rumplestiltskin’s grandson! It’s like when Darth Vader is revealed to be Luke’s father good!

So that would have been enough to make the entire episode golden but then you have the tension. Emma is shocked to find out who Bae is and she doesn’t want Henry to meet his father for the first time. Rumple is desperate to meet his son and when he finally does he reverts back to his old tricks and tries to use magic to fix his mistake, leaving Bae still seething, knowing that his father hasn’t changed. Then there’s the sweet first time meeting between Bae and Henry with Rumple watching from the distance realizing that his grandson is going to be his undoing. Deep breath.

August

Remember that scene in 'Tallahassee' where August opens a box and shows Neal something that will make him go along with his plan to make him leave Emma? Yeah, it was his typewriter with the words, "I know you're Baelfire" written on it. That would just about convince Neal to do anything. Couldn't he just have whispered it to him, though? I guess since he's a writer he had to add a bit of suspense to the moment. Go figure!

The Seer

Man, was she’s creepy. She looked like a Pan’s Labyrinth monster. As a little girl, we met her in Fairytale Land with her eyes were stitched shut and eyeballs placed in her hands. She gave cryptic messages of the future that never turn out the way you think, like her cow prophecy. She said the human army would ride into battle on cows. They rode in horses outfitted in leather (cow) harnesses. Her prophecy actually spurred on to Rumple intentionally injure his leg with a sledgehammer, giving him the limp we've all come to know, in order to get discharged from the Ogre Wars thereby making him the town coward.

As an adult she gave Rumplestiltskin her burden (key word burden) of sight which is the reason why he’s always two steps ahead of everyone else. She also told him that he would find his son again and an unlikely boy would help him but this boy is not what he seems and he will become Rumple’s undoing. So that means that Henry has some power that we don’t know about yet. Can you guess what it is?

Regina, Cora and Hook

While Rumple was away, the three decided to play and for them that meant using magic to look through Belle’s purse to find out where Rumple’s dagger is. Hook got played AGAIN when Cora knocked him out and Regina found out that Cora only wanted the dagger to gain power over the Dark One and get him to kill Emma, Snow and Charming. Is it just me or did Regina not seem to happy with this plan? Plus, I think she's playing Cora. She seems to have gotten the information she needed from Cora the moment Cora spilled the beans. It was just that cryptic look on her face. It was too mysterious to ignore. Too bad for the town that Greg Mendel, the town stranger, saw Regina doing magic and got it all on cell phone video. Doh!

There's so much more to say but my head is still spinning from the fact that Henry's grandfathers are Prince Charming and Rumplestiltskin, his mother is the savior, his adopted mother is the Evil Queen and Baelfire is his father. Did I leave anything out? Oh yeah, Regina is also Henry's step-great grandmother making Regina Henry's adopted mother and step-great grandmother at the same time. Ladies and gentleman, Storybrooke has just entered Soap Opera land.

This episode gets a 5 out of 5 only because I can't rate it a 10 out of 5. AH-MAZ-ING!
