Nray's Fitness Kickboxing class is a great way to increase endurance, improve conditioning, learn the basics of kickboxing, and improve overall health.
Kickboxing is a combination of Asian martial arts like Karate, Muay Thai, and western boxing. It uses the fluid, powerful kicks from the Asian martial arts and the fast, intense punches from western boxing. While these classes don't focus on the combat/self-defense aspects of kickboxing (they are focused entirely on fitness and fat loss), they are an enjoyable way to learn real-life techniques used by professional fighters.
Additionally, the hour-long classes are designed for people of all fitness and experience levels. The classes are designed to allow participants to go at their own pace, making them great for men and women of all ages and fitness levels.
You can expect to start the class with a 10-minute warm-up of jumping jacks, lunges, jump squats, mountain climbers, and push-ups, followed by some stretching. Depending on the size of the class, each participant will work with their own full-size punching bag. Students with more experience are sometimes paired up to work with holding boxing pads for each other. The kickboxing combinations and drills are interspersed with various exercise sets - anything from push-ups and squats, to light weights or resistance bands. Each class ends with a brief set or two of ab work.
Recently, classes for children have been added as well. Students and parents have described that classes as fun and non-intimidating. The team exercises and group activities help children develop positive social skills, and individual ranking and testing encourages ambition, goal setting, and drive.
Personal training is also offered at the same location for those looking for one-on-one attention.
