There has been a lot of electronic ink used to discuss the dozens of note taking applications for the iPad. But, there is a brand new note taking app that is worth the download. The App, called "Note Anytime" is available now in the Apple App store. Best of all it is FREE! It will probably not be free for much longer because the App is crazy good. Other blogs are talking about it too.
You have the normal options like picking the paper style, paper size, pen color and pen thickness (the calligraphy tool will impress everyone, even those with sloppy penmanship). But, the developers at MetaMoji took a unique approach to the palm-print problem; they allow for a re-sizable palm safe zone that can be as large or as small as you want. Most note taking apps have either a full horizontal zone or no safe zone at all. One of the best features is that your notes are not trapped on the app; you can forward them via email, post them to Twitter/Facebook/Tumblr, link them to the web, copy/paste them or export them to DropBox. You can also layer your handwriting and other text elements to create a sketch-up or even fill in a form. Speaking of forms, you can take any Adobe PDF document, import it into Note Anytime and mark it up or fill in the blanks. Sketch-noting has really taken off and there are several apps that do it well. But, they all have limitations and can be cumbersome to learn. Note Anytime is very intuitive and with the advanced brushes and detail, Sketch-noting is easy.
Another problem with the note taking capabilities of the iPad is the stylus or lack-thereof a native Apple branded or Apple supplied stylus. Many third parties have designed and released the same old rubber tip, eraser point stylus. But, a new kid on the block has also shaken up this space. The "Su-Pen" doesn't have a rubber tip, but it is a mesh of sorts that glides easily along the iPad glass. The unnatural thudding and skipping you get from a rubber bulb tip is gone with the Su-Pen. The mesh tip is actually an electric conductive fiber, that has replaceable tips if ever the need arises to switch out the end. You can buy the Su-Pen on Amazon right now for $39.99.
Combining the Su-Pen and Note Anytime will give you a lot of power to take notes, sketch and be more productive with your iPad and other tablet devices. These are both very well designed products and they come highly recommended.
