Ever since I heard that the recent renovations to California Adventure would include a Starbuck’s, I was excited. It’s difficult to find fresh brewed iced tea in the Disneyland Resort’s parks so I hoped that their Starbuck’s would have the Starbuck’s iced tea. When we finally got there, I was thrilled. The Starbuck’s is actually incorporated into the Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Café on Carthay Circle, which is the equivalent of the plaza at the end of Main Street in Disneyland.
This restaurant is significantly larger than the typical Starbuck’s because it is a full restaurant. It’s even larger than the typical Disneyland café. Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Café is designed for dine in though you can also order for takeout. You can order breakfast with artisan breakfast sandwiches, cinnamon rolls with cream cheese or pastries. We came later in the day so had lunch. Dinner is the same menu.
Beverages - Tall Very Berry Hibiscus Refresher, $3.29 and Trenta Iced Tea, Black, $3.29
Dorothy tried the smallest size of the Very Berry Hibiscus Refresher, which size Starbuck’s calls a “tall.” She enjoyed it though for her taste, the hibiscus was a bit strange.
As I have been waiting months for this café to open so I could get my Starbuck’s, fresh brewed iced tea I was a bit disappointed. Their black tea, without water added, was weaker than I like. My baristas tell me that they actually brew it slightly longer than the official timing because in training, they were told it was too weak if they used the official length. I’ll still be stopping for fresh brewed iced tea there but prefer the stronger blend at other Starbuck’s not in the park.
Turkey Ruben Sandwich, $9.69
Nevertheless, we were both pleased with the selection of sandwiches and salads available.
Dorothy ordered Turkey Ruben. It came with Kettle Chips. One of Dorothy’s favorite sandwiches is a Ruben. Although she doesn’t normally like turkey all that much, she said that this Ruben was really good. It’s not as salty as ‘real’ Rubens made with corned beef. The rye bread had a pleasantly strong rye flavor. Dorothy said the sauerkraut was just right too.
Salad Turkey, $8.99
When I picked up my Turkey Salad, I was thrilled that it used real turkey meat, not pressed or processed turkey. I got the Honey Mustard dressing. Fiddler, Fifer and Practical makes their salads with field greens instead of iceberg, a major plus in my mind. It also had grape tomatoes.
Sides - Grapes, Red 6oz, $2.79
We shared a container of Ready Pac Red Grapes. They were good. They provided just the right amount of sweet in my opinion.
Service, Atmosphere and Other Comments
As you will find at most good restaurants in either of the Disneyland parks, Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Café had long lines when we dined there. Fortunately, the wait seemed reasonable considering the size of the crowd that day. Naturally it is a family restaurant with casual dining. It is classified a quick service restaurant.
When we return, if the weather is a bit cooler, we might try the pen-air seating. This time we enjoyed the air conditioning. We loved our lunch here so we will definitely be back.
